 Dear Seema Praharis,

Today the Border Security Force has entered its Golden Jubilee Year. A moment of pride for all of us-serving or retired. Right form its inception in 1965, when need was felt for an organized border guarding force as a result of Pakistani incursion in Gujarat State, BSF has always lived up to all the challenges that came its way and has grown into a trusted and professional armed force of the country. The crucial role played by the BSF in the liberation of Bangladesh, its important role in fighting terrorism and insurgency in Kashmir and Punjab, its supportive role in law and order duties and its successful handling of the Anti Maoist operations in Odisha and Chhatisgarh have been lauded and appreciated by many. On this day, we recall the contribution of all the past and present members of this esteemed border guarding force and pay homage to them who made supreme sacrifice to the cause of national security and integrity.

The welfare of personnel guarding the border is of foremost importance to us. Their needs and aspirations form the highest priority of any policy formulation or initiative of BSF. Their professional capability, health , wellbeing of their families, housing, clothing and equipment and weaponry are always considered the most important aspect of any policy decision and implementation. Hence, most of our efforts during Golden Jubilee Year would be dedicated to the welfare and wellbeing of our Seema Praharis.

We  have recently introduced 'Seema Prahari Suraksha Kavach' scheme managed by BSF, which not only ensures timely payment and high life insurance coverage, but will also give lucrative returns in terms of money back to all BSF personnel. To take care of their Families closer to their home, BSF has made endeavour to create 29 reserve Locations, which are spread across most of the States of the country. About 10,000 SFA quarters are being constructed in these. In phases, all the old BOPs will be replaced by composite BOPs. To facilitate berths in trains for the Jawans travelling home on leave, arrangements have been made for dedicated AC3 coaches in popular trains on major routes to some of the important destinations. For our retired personnel, Pension Adalats are being held at various locations close to their homes to resolve any issues related to their pensionary benefits.

In  49 years that have gone by, we have gained the reputation of a well trained professional force. In 2014 itself BSF has apprehended about 4000 intruders and seized contraband worth Rs.1500 crores (Approx). For reemphasizing the importance of training we are creating a training hub in each Sector, with a baffle range and many modern training facilities like simulators and computer labs. We have defended our borders with courage and hard work, giving due respect to human rights and earning cooperation of border population. In this 50th year of our formation we re-dedicate our services to the Nation with a resolve to perform our duties with more vigour and valour and continue to live upto our motto - 'Jeevan Paryanth Karthavya'.
